New version of v4 products due shortly.
March 09
PT 8 cs2 has a bug that affects Soundminer on G5's. If you set the G5 to use 2 processors in Pro Tools, and it runs out of CPU, it takes down some other programs (including Soundminer). So it looks like Soundminer crashes, but really, it's Pro Tools causing it. Change over to 1 processor, and there should be no more PT crashes/CPU runouts.
In general, we no longer recommend G5s for use with Soundminer in PT8 environments.
January 09
Pro Tools 8 tested and caveats/issues are the same as version 7.4. We have been informed that nothing has changed with regards to third party transfers.
PLEASE NOTE: Early tests show that Soundminer's PTsearch tool and dragging and dropping the PT session onto v4 does NOT update the transfer parameters when using PT8. Users are urged to double check and if necessary, manually set their transfer parameters to match their current Pro Tools session. One user reports it WILL work as long as there is NO find Filter enabled in your regions list. You may have to close and re-open your session for the change to take place. We will follow up with Digidesign as to why this is happening again.
SMXP USER WARNING !!! SMXP is not not currently certified on Windows Vista. Preliminary testing shows that the client appears to function normally with Vista systems, though there is one known major issue with Aladdin’s usb dongle. DO NOT INSTALL THE HASP SRM DRIVER AS EARLY TESTS SHOW IT TO BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH Pro Tools 8. Only install the HASP 4 driver. when inserting the key, do not allow the OS to gather the driver from the internet as it will always find and install the SRM driver. Use the provided installer in SMXP.
November 08
V4 Ripper for MAC released. If you have already upgraded, contact sales@soundminer.com to get the download information.
SMXP 1.3 to be released shortly - includes new AVID metadata option, mp3 support and brand new Nuendo/Cubase interfacing allowing automatic detection of session, info and spotting parameters.
September 08
V4 Ripper for MAC to be shown at AES October 3rd, 2008.
Sonomic special for Soundminer users announced.
New Windows version with mp3 , Vista and extended Nuendo support announced.
USER TIP: users report this error: “NSInternalInconsistencyException” in some cases. PLEASE turn off/disable the Digidesign Core audio driver. If this is enabled, it will interrupt communication between Soundminer and Pro Tools. Please keep the sound control panel set to built-in.
July 08
Mac Version 4.1.8 released. Full Leopard support(OSX 10.5.x). Go to the user ftp site to get the new versions of Miniminer, v4 and v4pro. Sonomic connectivity included for free.
Note : unfortunately a last minute bug slipped in and the version on the FTP doesn't show the manual from the help menu...If you control click on the program and show package contents and go into Contents/resources you'll see the ‘SMv4_manual.pdf’....Turns out if you rename the small v in SMv4_manual.pdf to SMV4_manual.pdf it'll work as expected...
Mac v3 upgrades extended to end of July 2008.
Windows USERS - version 1.31 in the ‘beta’ folder on the FTP site. This is not a ‘beta’ but a maintenance update that provides better indexing but a major change in that it now connects to the v4 MAC server for users in mixed environments. Those of you on v3 servers should back up your databases before attempting to use this version.
June 08
Pro Tools known issues persist in latest Digidesign release - spot selection bug in Pro Tools, Elastic Audio bug in Pro Tools, illegal character exit all persist in new CS releases - Users should be aware of these and avoid them in order to avoid Pro Tools crashes. We cannot programme around these bugs in their software.
v3 upgrades ending Dec 30th, 2008 - make sure you upgrade before the end of the year.
March 08
User check they have the March 17 build of 4.1.5 - a few last minute changes were made...
Leopard issues with SD2 files - fixed in version 4.1.5
Pro Tools multiple selection bug in cs versions of 7.4. Digidesign has been made aware of this - please use the ‘ZERO Pro Tools’ preference in V4/v4pro to workaround issue. Elastic Audio still an issue for transfers. See new quicktime transfer movie for help.
Version 4.1.5 on the user ftp site for all users - make sure you download the correct version for your license.
Don’t use numbers to begin a name in your databases - it will crash. ‘123MyDatabase’ will crash, but ‘MyDatabase1’ won’t.
December 07 - All product bulletin
v4 and v4pro 4.1 released officially. New versions are available at the user ftp site. Support for Leopard among the dozens of additions.
Miniminer available January 2nd, 2008.
MetaEdit discontinued officially - this product was built to help aid the Music Libraries through the stage of embedding their assets when v4pro was not yet shipping. Now that both v4 and v4pro are shipping, MetaEdit has been discontinued and its features rolled into v4pro. V4pro adds considerable conversion power allowing libraries to make mirrored copies of their databases in any uncompressed format. All existing users of MetaEdit can move to v4pro or any other product for the difference in price.
November 07 - V4/V4pro
Minminer should be shipping by the End of the Year.
RipperV4 is delayed as we concentrate on the other products. RipperV3 still works however authorization is only via HASP keys.
We will be replacing the Aladdin License Manager with our own License Manager as continued issues abound with Aladdin’s network software.
Leopard support will come with the next version of V4/V4pro. Do not try to use it with the currently posted version.
Pro Tools 7.4 - some users have reported issues, however, we have done some initial tests and it appears to be working as it should with some caveats: One very important change is in the new ‘Elastic Mode’ feature in 7.4. With this engaged, the track will not accept a third party import as it requires internal analysis of the file for tempo alterations. In short, make sure this feature is disabled on the track you are spotting for Soundminer to operate correctly. Foreign characters can and will cause issues. Make sure you have selected a file naming algorithm that does not introduce foreign characters or create a blank region name. We will note anything else we find on this page for users.
October 07 - V4/V4pro
Do not embed any file larger than 200mb as we have discovered an issue that will be fixed in the next revision. The process could result in corruption of the file. Always backup your files and databases please.
